Himba

This series of work depicts the progression of the females in the tribe through what I consider the interesting and prevalent stages of their lives including childhood, puberty, marriage, adulthood and finally attaining a matriarchal position in the family.

I love the colours in Africa the quality of the light and the way the light and colour dance around my subject in a consistently beautiful way. 

The work comes from inspiration gathered during my time traveling in Namibia and is inspired by the book by my aunt Mary Rice ‘Heat, Dust and Dreams’.
